Yeah, I watched it online, and it doesn't really capture it here. That awesome montgage/video that they had going right before he took the stage built up the moment wonderfully. Then the video fades out, and he's striding onto the stage, 80,000 people are cheering their heads off... You could tell he was speechless for the first minute.

Fantastic speech. There's one clear difference between the Democrats and the Republicans in this election. Obama and Biden stand at the lectern and speak directly and frankly to the people. McCain and Palin are doing nothing but sugar-coating issues and making cheap shots. Promising a better future is meaningless if you're not willing to recognize the present. Regardless of the president, these next 4 years are not going to be easy. We need a president who's willing to talk to US.

I agree with his points on pensions- but if companies are going to go belly up: the pension can't get funded. We need more doctors: more supply-- not government intervention. Oh my God. I'm 12 years old and although I obviously didn't vote as I'm not of age, I feel that I personally have made a difference in the outcome of this election. I feel like Barack Obama deserves everything he's gotten. He IS the next president of the United States thanks to us and I'm so proud of our nation. I could swear I saw this a long time ago. Seems like a rerun. But a least it's better than Mcains' ad. Tells:what he did, how he was raised, worked for community, beat the odds, kept his vows of marriage, humbles himself, etc. He beat Hillary for the Democratic Party and he didn't even quit, to me that shows determination, focus, percistance and faith. It's not fair to everyone else. Is that really a good plan? Also, he is not a good speaker in front of people. Yes, he is good at reading off a teleprompter and McCain is not, but when he is asked questions he sits there and goes.. "uhhh uhhh" before he speaks. I don't know that much about Bill Clinton so I can't say much about him. But can you honestly sit there and think Obama will make a good president? First of all he wants to raise taxes to make a National Health Care thing or another.. This plan is ridiculous. All it is, is giving the "lower" class or "less fortunate" even more of a reason to not work. So we should treat the extremely high crime rate of fatherless children as a coincidence. Barack was acknowledging some of the root issues of which the crime rate is a symptom. Should that be ignored, when it obviously plays a factor. I think it's obvious there's not an automatic cause and effect, but the statistics certainly indicate something, and Barack shows by example that someone can grow up without a father and be successful. He also understands that the chances are against it.

Obama is a truly talented speaker. Read his written speeches, you absorb the details and subtle writing under the speeches must easier. His ability to use metaphors and allusions are masterful in a way no one can doubt. I do not agree with all of Obama's policies, but if you are rebuking only his ability to write and speech, it is mistaken. He integrates ethos, pathos, and logos perfectly in a mixed balance into his speeches in a way that rivals the Greeks themselves.

Yes, Patty518, Obama was speaking of all fathers who have abandoned their kids. But he ignored the MANY kids whose fathers did NOT CHOOSE to leave, but were FORCED OUT. His assumption that absence = abandonment is as wrong as it would be to assume that low A-A voter turnout in 1840 was 'proof that they didn't really want to vote'. If fathers are so "critical" then why do the family courts allow Parental Ailenation(PAS) to continue and say it doesn't occur? Why are dads "MIA"? Many moms (not all) with custody deny dads their court granted parenting time called possession or "visitation." Often, it's women leaving men. When a man is current on child support then there's no money for an attorney to enforce his God granted rights. Stop this CRIME against us now!
